Gang-rape of Odisha girl student in West Bengal: Three arrested

Bhubaneswar (12/10/2025): Three accused in the gang-rape of a medical student from Odisha in West Bengal were arrested.

The arrest was made after 36 hours of the crime. Two more accused are still absconding. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday expressed deep anguish over the gang-rape of the Odia girl student in Durgapur, West Bengal, terming the incident "deeply painful and condemnable." The Chief Minister urged West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to take exemplary legal action against the accused and directed senior Odisha officials to coordinate with Bengal authorities. The victim's family will be provided full support by the state government, he said. The girl from Jaleswar studying II-year MBBS in a private medical college at Shobhapur under Durgapur area in West Bengal was reportedly raped on Friday night.

The girl and his boyfriend were moving outside the college campus when she was allegedly taken to a nearby forest and sexually assaulted there.
