Atigaon–Tel River Bridge Road turns death trap: Locals demand immediate action by authorities

Kalahandi(11/10/2025): The Atigaon–Tel River Bridge road, a crucial route connecting Junagarh and Golamunda blocks in Kalahandi district, has deteriorated into a dangerous stretch, sparking widespread concern among locals and civic activists. The 1.5 km stretch, barely 30 feet wide, has become muddy, potholed, and waterlogged, making daily travel perilous for school buses, ambulances, and two-wheelers.
Locals allege that despite repeated complaints, no proper maintenance has been carried out for years, leaving thousands of villagers, farmers, students, and patients struggling to commute safely. Dr.Lokesh Durga, a social activist and local resident, described the situation as “a matter of urgent public safety.” “The Tel River Bridge is not just a road.
It is the lifeline of two blocks.
When ambulances get stuck and children travel through mud and craters daily, it becomes a question of human dignity and governance.
Authorities must act before the people are forced to protest,” Dr.Durga argued. Residents have also warned that if the administration fails to act, overloaded vehicle movements may be restricted through public efforts to prevent further damage to the already fragile road. Another resident of Atigaon Gram Panchayat voiced strong criticism of the ruling government and said, “The state government is completely responsible for this situation.
This road must be repaired at the earliest,” the resident said. Locals have made a humble appeal to Captain D.S.Mishra and the District Administration, Kalahandi, to personally visit the site and ensure immediate repair work. Meanwhile, the issue has gained traction on social media with citizens sharing visuals and posts under hashtags such as #VoiceOfPeople #PublicIssue #AtigaonToTelBridge #TelRiverBridge #Junagarh #Golamunda #OdishaRoads #RuralConnectivity #PeopleDeserveBetter.
