Odisha CM expresses deep anguish over gang rape of Odia girl student in West Bengal

Bhubaneswar (11/10/2025): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday expressed deep anguish over the reported gang rape of an Odia girl student in Durgapur, West Bengal, terming the incident "deeply painful and condemnable." The Chief Minister urged West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to take exemplary legal action against the accused and directed senior Odisha officials to coordinate with Bengal authorities.

The victim's family will be provided full support by the state government, he said. The Odia girl from Jaleswar studying II-year MBBS in a private medical college at Shobhapur under Durgapur area in West Bengal was reportedly raped on Friday night. The girl and his boyfriend were moving outside the college campus when she was allegedly taken to a nearby jungle and sexually assaulted there. On being informed, police reached the spot and started an investigation.
