PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission launched in Odisha

Bhubaneswar(11/10/2025): Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana and Mission for Self-Reliance in Pulses at the OUAT Agriculture Auditorium in Bhubaneswar.
The CM said these initiatives will play a crucial role in empowering farmers and ensuring self-sufficiency in the agriculture sector. The schemes, launched nationwide by Prime Minister Narendra Modi across 100 districts, will now be implemented in Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, and Nuapada districts of Odisha.
The Centre has allocated Rs 24,000 crore annually for six years, benefiting 1.7 crore farmers across the country. During the event, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for two major projects in Odisha — an Integrated Aqua Park worth Rs 100 crore at Basantpur, Sambalpur, and a Modern Fish Market worth Rs 60 crore at Pandara, Bhubaneswar. Speaking on the occasion, CM Majhi said agriculture remains the primary livelihood for over 60% of Odisha’s population and nearly 50% of India’s.
Since 2014, the Modi Government has launched numerous welfare schemes to improve farmers’ lives, helping India achieve self-reliance in several sectors. He emphasized that India still depends on imports for pulses and edible oils and called for reducing that dependence through diversification of crops and modern farming practices.
He noted that under the State Budget 2025–26, the Odisha government has earmarked Rs 37,838 crore for agriculture and allied sectors.
The flagship Samruddha Krushak Yojana ensures farmers receive Rs 3,100 per quintal as combined MSP and input assistance. Majhi expressed confidence that the PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) will uplift farming families and enhance their income.
He thanked the Prime Minister for selecting four districts of Odisha under this program and assured full cooperation from the State for its successful implementation. He said farmers will now diversify into pulses, oilseeds, and other cash crops, leading to greater profitability. The Pandara Wholesale Fish Market Project, being developed under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) with an investment of Rs 59.13 crore, will directly benefit 143 traders and generate over 2,000 indirect jobs.
The project is expected to be completed by November 2027. Similarly, the Integrated Aqua Park at Hirakud, Sambalpur — spread over 95.47 acres — will be Eastern India’s first of its kind.
The Rs 100 crore project will be jointly funded by the Central (₹60 crore) and State (₹40 crore) governments and is expected to be completed by January 2027.
It aims to make Odisha a hub of modern aquaculture and contribute significantly to India’s Blue Revolution. Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said that while India has achieved self-reliance in rice, it is time to become self-sufficient in pulses and oilseeds as well, along with promoting the Blue Economy. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan described the initiatives as transformative schemes that will set a new benchmark for agricultural growth in Odisha. Union Minister Jual Oram joined the event virtually from Sundargarh, while several dignitaries, including BMC Mayor Sulochana Das, OUAT Vice-Chancellor Dr.
Prabhat Kumar Raul, and senior government officials, attended the function. Agriculture Department Principal Secretary Aravind Padhee delivered the welcome address, and Fisheries Director Mohammad Sadiq Alam proposed the vote of thanks.
