
Workshop on Odisha Energy transition policy inaugurated by Deputy CM K V Singh Deo
Bhubaneswar(18/07/2025): A workshop on the Odisha Energy Transition Policy was held at Mayfair, Bhubaneswar, bringing together key stakeholders from government departments, industry, and international financial institutions.This milestone event served as a collaborative platform where representatives from diverse sectorsâincluding Industry, Health, Fisheries, Urban Development, and Agricultureâconvened to deliberate on the policyâs strategic direction.The workshop marked a significant advancement in Odishaâs commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon future, fostering cross-sectoral dialogue and laying the groundwork for an inclusive and actionable energy transition roadmap. The workshop was graced by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment & Energy Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy Department of Odisha, Dr.Satya Priya Rath, MD GRIDCO, Ms.Sujata Gupta, South Asia (Energy) Director Asian Development Bank (ADB), Sreyamsa Bairiganjan, Chief of Programmes, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, and Padam Prakash, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt.Ltd(PwC). In his keynote address, Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo reaffirmed Odishaâs leadership in the national energy transition movement. âOdisha is not merely participating in the energy transition â we are committed to leading it.With around 7% GDP growth rate and disproportionately higher share in national emissions, it is imperative that we act decisively.The draft policy is a strategic roadmap, designed to drive accountability, innovation, and measurable progress.We are determined to implement it with urgency and precision, setting a benchmark for other states.â Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy Department, emphasized the importance of collaboration and measurable outcomes. The draft Odisha Energy Transition Policy is a forward-looking framework that integrates renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green employment. Dr.Satya Priya Rath, MD, GRIDCO, highlighted GRIDCOâs central role in the transition. GRIDCO is committed to enabling sectoral emission reductions and aligning with national targets.Sujata Gupta, Regional Director, ADB, expressed strong support for Odishaâs vision. ADB has supported various energy transition initiatives across multiple countries and eager to extend similar support to Odisha.Sreyamsa Bairiganjan, Chief of Programs, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, lauded Odishaâs proactive approach.Padam Prakash, Partner, PwC, underscored the importance of data-driven planning. PwC delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining how various departmentsâbeyond the Energy sectorâcan collaboratively contribute to Odishaâs clean energy future.The presentation emphasized the importance of systematic, result-oriented interventions implemented within defined timelines.It showcased an integrated approach where departments such as Industry, Health, Urban Development, Fisheries, and Agriculture can align their strategies to support the stateâs energy transition goals.The session was followed by an engaging interaction among stakeholders, fostering valuable cross-sectoral dialogue and reinforcing the collective commitment to a greener and more sustainable Odisha. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr.Debi Dutta Tripathy, FA cum Additional Secretary to the Government of Odisha.
