Odisha DGP directs CB probe into Gopalpur gang-rape case

Bhubaneswar (17/06/2025): Odisha DGP YB Khurania on Tuesday directed a Crime Branch probe into the gang-rape incident that took place at Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district recently. The case has been tagged as Red Flag case. The Crime Against Women and Children Wing of CID-CB,Odisha Police will investigate the case.

The team of CAW & CW has already reached Gopalpur. According to reports, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped at Gopalpur beach by three out of ten accused, including four minors. Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said, "The accused had extorted some money from the victim in cash and through UPI transaction by showing pictures of the woman and her boyfriend clicked by the gang.

They threatened to make the pictures viral on social media, if the duo fail to pay.

When the latter begged to spare them, the accused tied up the hands of the woman's male friend and sexually assaulted her.
