Accused in Online Investment in Stocks & IPOs Fraud Case arrested

Bhubaneswar (08/05/2025): The CID, Cyber Crime Unit of Crime Branch, Odisha has arrested one accused in an Online Investment in Stocks and IPOs Fraud Case involving an amount of Rs.2.36 crore. On the written report on 04.10.2023, a 50-year-old complainant from Purighat, Cuttack reported at the Cyber Crime PS that a fraud involving one WhatsApp group named "C-51 ICICI Securities Official Stock" was committed.
Unknown individuals persuaded him to invest in stocks and IPOs via fake apps (https://app.fiosh.com, https://bolsip.com), initially allowing small profits to gain his trust.
He was later offered a fake loan to invest in IPOs and was unable to withdraw funds due to a "Pending Review" status.
He was pressured to repay a non-existent loan of Rs 1.5 crore.
Eventually, he realized he had been duped of Rs 2.36 crore by fraudsters using multiple WhatsApp numbers and false identities.
He realized it was a scam and lodged an FIR.
The case is currently under investigation by Additional SP Satya Vikash Bhuyan. Previously, one accused Mohammed Zaki, son of Mohammed Siddique, At- Green City Apartment, Near Bala Garden Function Hall, Balapur, Hyderabad was arrested.
Now, the investigating team after analyzing the transaction details and working upon other digital evidences had crack down at Kolkata, West Bengal and after verifying the details in the locality, have successfully identified and arrested another one accused namely Nikhil Jaiswal (23), son of Chandra Prakash Jaishwal, 49/ 5 /3T, Karl Marx Sarani, Khiddipore, Kolkata, West Bengal , 700023.
The accused person has duped the biggest amount- Rs 1,41,15,000 from the victim and was arrested on 06.05.2025.
He had been produced before the Court Of CJM Alipore, 24- PRAGANA, South, then brought on transit remand to Odisha and produced on Thursday before JMFC III Cuttack as he is u/s 419/420/465/467/471/120-B/34 IPC r/w Sec.
66C/66D of the Information Technology Act. The investigating team have seized various incriminating articles including a Mobile Phone.
SIM Cards, Screenshots of Chats in WhatsApp, Aadhar Cards and a PAN Cards, Bank passbooks, Cheque Books, Debit Cards etc.
The Cyber Crime Unit of CID CB Odisha has arrested one more accused person from West Bengal on the pretext of Investment fraud to a tune of Rs.6,04,53,000 related to share markets and IPO allotment. The case in reference was registered on 13.01.2024 on the written complaint of a doctor from Bhubaneswar alleging therein that he has been defrauded to a tune of Rs.6,04,53,000 in period of 3.5 months under the pretext of investment in share market.
The complainant transferred the said amount to multiple accounts as per the instructions of fraudsters who assured him to obtain hefty returns by investing in IPO and OTC trading.
Later when the complainant was unable to withdraw his return he realized about the fraud and reported the matter at Cyber Crime Police Station, CID-CB, Odisha, Cuttack for the necessary legal action. During course of investigation it is ascertained that the complainant has deposited a total amount of Rs.6,04,53,000 to 22 different bank accounts in the preliminary stage from 8 different bank accounts of his own and other associates which is reflected in their respective bank statements and whose details are given.
Thereafter this money is either withdrew by Cheque, ATM withdrawals or further transferred to 2nd layer on the same day and some money is also withdrawn on the 2nd layer also.
In the same way the money has been channeled to different accounts layer by layer and subsequently withdrawn via Cheque or ATM.
The Team led by IO Inspector Gitanjali Jena who had previously arrested 02 accused persons namely Ashok Nanda (53) of Siliguri, Darjeeling District and Jayarani Basak (38), West Bengal on 01.05.2025 and 04.05.2025 has arrested another accused namely Tapas Haldar(28), son of Sontu Haldar of Basanti Colony Road,Ultadanga Main Road, Kolkota, West Bengal on 05.05.2025, produced before the Court of ACJM, Sealdah, Kolkota, 24 Pgs (S) and brought in remand and produced before SDJM, Bhubaneswar. The investigating team have seized various incriminating articles including a Mobile Phone, SIM Cards, Screenshots of Chats in WhatsApp, Aadhar Cards and a PAN Cards, Bank passbooks, Cheque Books, Debit Cards etc.
In this case the IO has already frozen several bank accounts of the fraudsters. Investigation of the case is under progress.
The investigating team will unearth other accomplices of this crime, its trans-India ramification and the money trail.
The citizens are requested to beware of unsolicited investment offers on social media and messaging apps always verify before investing to avoid falling victim to cyber frauds and to report such matters at 1930 Cyber helpline or at nearest police stations                      .
