Bhubaneswar(16/04/2025): Odisha Professional Social Worker’s Association (OPSWA) organized a sensitization program on the topic, “School Social Work: Challenges and Opportunities of Implementation in Odisha”, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Regional Science Center, Acharya Vihar in Bhubaneswar.
The Program was inaugurated by esteemed guests: Dr.Gopal Prasad Mohapatra: Akhil Bharatiya Sadbhawna Pramukh, RSS, who served as the Chief Guest, Professor Hrushikesh Senapati: Former Director, NCERT, Dr.Rabindra Garada: Head of the Department of Sociology at Utkal University and P.K.Sahoo: Chairman of Centre for Youth and Social Development (CYSD), who served as the Guests of Honour, by lighting of the lamp.
OPSWA’s President, Dr.Gayatri Patnaik, welcomed the participants and Dr.Jharana Swain, OPSWA’s Secretary addressed the august gathering with a welcome address.
A diverse audience of 80 participants attended the program, including Faculty Members of Department of Social Work in various renowned colleges, social activists and other students.The program.
The ultimate aim of the program, as specified by Dr.Jharana Swain, was to bring together stakeholders, including educators, policymakers, and social workers, to discuss the role of school social work in promoting holistic development and well-being of students in Odisha.
Chief Speaker at the program, Professor Hrushikesh Senapati, emphasized the vision of National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 was to build a system of education rooted in Indian ethos from which India will arise as the knowledge superpower of the world.
He said, “Without the help of Social workers, holistic development of school-going children will remain a dream only.
Social workers can act as a bridge between school, home and community and can strengthen school-community relationship”.
Dr.Gopal Prasad Mohapatra advocated the role of Swayam Sevaks in shaping the social fabric of society.
He opined, “Finding meaning and purpose in serving others is an obligation of every individual.
Social workers can not only contribute towards greater good but are capable of raising children to become compassionate human beings.”
Dr.Rabindra Garada stated that, “We believe that school social work plays a vital role in not only supporting the overall development of students, but also in building a strong and self-sufficient nation”.
P.K.Sahoo remarked, “Social workers play a vital role in schools, supporting students' academic success, emotional well-being, and social development.
They can support students' holistic development and promote a positive and supportive learning environment.”
Dr.Gayatri Patnaik, President of OPSWA, highlighted the role of OPSWA in facilitating to build a broader network in which social workers can collaborate with teachers and students to strengthen the community-school relationships and promoting a well-adjusted and well-functioning society and presented the vote of thanks.
