Consultation on 74th amendment and rights of informal workers held

Bhubaneswar (21/03/2025): A one-day consultation on the 74th amendment and the rights of informal workers was held at the Recross Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, under the banner of ActionAid Association in collaboration with the Centre for Child & Women Development (CCWD).
The objective of the consultation was to assess the status of land tenure, housing, and amenities issues affecting people, explore existing legal opportunities for ensuring land rights, housing, and basic amenities, discuss various strategies for accessing land tenure and dignified housing through a comprehensive slum policy, as well as examine labour rights and their provisions.
Addressing at the gathering, Itishree Das Corporator,ward No-13 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation shared insights on the rights and entitlements of informal workers and key provisions.
Sudarshan Chottaray, Senior Journalist shared the 74th Constitutional provisional provisions (ULB) relating to informal workers.
Debabrat Patra, Associate Director of ActionAid Association, delivered the keynote address on labour rights, land and housing rights, and basic amenities for informal workers living in urban poverty.
Sadashiv Swain, Centre Coordinator shared the current situation of informal workers and social security measures.
Suvendu Kumar Ray, (Senior Project Lead) of ActionAid Association, reflected on land rights policy for the slum dwellers and housing schemes.
The welcome address was given by Snigdha Das.
Lastly, Gitanjali Panda proposed a warm vote of thanks to all.
The consultation saw participation from members of ASM, YUW, and different groups of informal workers .
