Second day of Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav showcased award presentations with Odissi & Attakkalari Martial Dance

Bhubaneswar(08/02/2025): The 2nd day of 21st Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav jointly organized by Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Government of Odisha and Orissa Dance Academy in association with Art Vision witnessed a beautiful blend of Indian classical and martial dance forms by renowned artistes showcasing Odissi - a fusion of classical, folk & contemporary dance styles and Attakkalari Martial dance. This year Buddha Samman 2025 presented to Guru (Prof.) Ramhari Das, Eminent Singer, Composer & Musicologist for his lifetime contribution in the field of Odissi music.
Similarly Guru Gangadhar Smruti Samman 2025 presented to Sharmila Biswas, Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Eminent Odissi danseuse, Dr.Sangita Gosain, Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Renowned Singer & Composer, Guru Kalandi Charan Parida, State Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee & noted Mardala Exponent and Shri Khirod Mohan Pattnaik, noted Art Promoter. The opening performance of the evening was Odissi Dance Gatha Odisha - a fusion of classical, folk & contemporary dance styles by the senior dancers from the leading dance institutions like Orissa Dance Academy, Nrutya Naivedya, Debadasi, Samprada, Soor Mandir, Nilakantheswar Gotipua Gurukul, Mokshya & Cornucopia Creations.
Gatha Odisha is woven with threads of culture, heritage, and a spiritual ethos of Odisha that resonates across the ages.
It seeks to narrate the story of Odisha, a luminous petal of the resplendent lotus that is India.
The dance was Choreographed by Guru Dr.Aruna Mohanty, Assistant Choreographed by Janardhan Raj Urs, Music Composed by Guru Agnimitra Behera and Rhythm Composed by Guru Dhaneswar Swain and Ajaya Kumar Choudhury. The concluding presentation of the evening was Attakkalari Martial Dance by Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts led by Jayachandran Palazhy & group, Bangalore.
They presented Sonnet of Samsara, the performance adapts movement principles from Kalarippayattu and Bharatanatyam, intertwining global themes with local traditions.
Sonnet of Samsara is an immersive exploration of Samsara, karmic cycles, and environmental consciousness.
The dance was Choreographed by Artistic Director Jayachandran Palazhy. The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister, Odisha; Satyabrata Sahoo, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Government of Odisha; Dr.(Prof.) Priyambad Mohanty Hejmadi, Noted Odissi Danseuse and Former Vice-Chancellor Sambalpur University; Guru (Dr.) Aruna Mohanty, Secretary, Orissa Dance Academy and Guru (Dr.) Ileana Citaristi, Secretary, Art Vision.
The programme was anchored by Dr(En.) Srinivas Ghatuari and Nazia Alam.
