Dreaded criminal Babuna nabbed after exchange of fire with police

Dhenkanal (29/04/2024): A dreaded criminal was arrested after an exchange of fire with police in Dhenkanal district on Monday. The criminal identified as Subash Khuntia (30) alias Babuna sustained bullet injuries on his left leg and was rushed to the district headquarters hospital. A police constable also received minor injuries during the gunfight. The police recovered a country-made pistol, live ammunition, three fired cases, Rs 2000 cash, a crude bomb and a machete from the spot.Two of his associates managed to flee during the encounter. After receiving a tip-off regarding the presence of Babuna and his associates at Khuntaposi forest, the cops raided the area.The criminals were planning for an extortion using firearms and explosives. Noticing the police team, the criminals threw bombs.In response, the police personnel fired at them in self defence.
