Bhubaneswar(17.11.2023) : The concluding evening at the Rajarani temple witnessed scintillating performance on Odissi Instrumental (Mardala) by Guru Dhaneswar Swain was an eminent Mardala player with Carnatic vocal by Ranjani Gayatri’s concert, was a 21st-century vocalist in the field of Carnatic music.
In the first phase internationally acclaimed Mardala player Guru Dhaneswar Swain and his group presented Odissi Mardala recital.
They began with Sabda Soor based on Lord Jagannath, Eka Hasta Badya & Chausathi Chhanda Badya, Chhanda Prakaran and followed by Aditala with sixteen beats in which they showcased Jamana, Chhanda, Prakarana, Ragada, Khandi, Badi, Arasha and Bhauniri Arasha much to the joy of the discerning audiences.
They were assisted on Mardala by Soubhagya Ranjan Chhotray, Sitakanta Jena, Rohita Pradhan and Bibhuti Bhusan Champati, on Flute by Guru Srinibas Satapathy and on Harmonium by Dhaneswar Ojha.
In the second phase Carnatic Classical Singer Ranjani Balasubhramanian and Gayatri Balasubramanian from Chennai presented the varied nuances of Carantic music on different Rags, Talas and Pallavi.
They started with Rag Hindolam and Tala Adital followed by some rendition in high octave enamored the audiences who were deeply engrossed by the presentation of this colossus personality in Indian classical music.
They were accompanied on Mrudangum played by Delhi Savam and on Violin played by Charumathi Raghuraman.
The atmosphere inside the temple premises was not only musical but thrilled the music lovers for whom the rendition of Ranjani Gayatri’s concert was indeed memorable.
The dignitaries who graced the concluding evening were Guru Aruna Mohanty, President, Odisha Sangita Natak Akademi; Prasanna Kumar Swain, Vice Chancellor, Utal University of Culture and Prabodh Kumar Rath, Secretary, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi.
