Bhubaneswar(03/03/2021): Nutrition is like Sanjivani and it is essential for the proper growth of the body, said eminent speakers participating in the State Level Consultation on Nutritional Self Dependence organized at Panthanivas, Bhubaneswar by People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC), a leading voluntary organization of Odisha in collaboration with TDH (G) and BMZ and in cooperation with DISHA, & CAUSE on Wednesday.
Addressing the inaugural session, Sandhyabati Pradhan, Chairman, OSCPCR, said, “There is no alternative to sustainable development and through it nutritional self dependence will be achieved.”
She further stated that Odisha is the first state to do a budget for nutrition and state govt.
is taking various measures to address the issue.
Dr Sipra Mallick, Member Odisha State Food Commission, said nutrition is essential for the proper growth of children and we all should take initiative to aware people about the various nutrition related schemes and programmes of the government.
Sulata Deo, Advisor, Women & Child Development department, Odisha informed about the various schemes and programmes of the government especially Sopan Schemes.
Anuradha Mohanty, Executive Director, PECUC gave the welcome address.
Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, PECUC, shared the purpose of this workshop and briefed the works of PECUC and its initiative towards achieving nutritional self dependency in its project area.
He also facilitated the inaugural session.
Other guest speakers Madhumita Das, Consultant, Women & Child Development department, Dr Biswaranjan Padhi, former Joint Director of Nutrition, Health and Family Welfare department, Odisha and Deepak Kumar Mishra, State Coordinator, Baitarani Initiative discussed on local ecological food & its nutritional value, regular diet & balance diet, scope for improvement, health, wellness and disease management, nutrition, stress & immunity and different nutritional related schemes and programmes of the government.
The session was facilitated by Binayak Swain, social worker.
On this occasion, a seed exhibition was organized.
To fight malnutrition many recommendation were given by the participants in this consultation.
A project is being implemented at 6 villages of Keonjhar district and 16 villages of Sundargarh district and there the farmers are using traditional local seeds and organic method to increase production to fight the malnutrition.
A video regarding this project was also displayed.
Around 100 participants from different districts including farmer, SHG leaders, members of civil society groups, government institutions and academicians participated in the consultation.
