Webinar on Youth Engagement for Global Action held

Bhubaneswar (13/08/2020): On the occasion of International Youth Day, a webinar on Youth Engagement for Global Action was organised through virtual platform by People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC), a leading voluntary organisation of Odisha, Ecosavers youth Network in collaboration with TDH[G] & BMZ. The theme of International Youth Day 2020, “Youth Engagement for Global Action” seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.
The purpose of this webinar was to motivate youths as a change agent for local action.
Stuti Ranjan Pradhan, State President Ecosavers- the Youth Network presided over the meeting & shared the purpose and welcomed the guests.
Dr.Rinchen Chophel ,Director General South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children, an apex body of SAARC from Bhutan gave the inaugural address and encouraged the youth to take lead role for bringing desired changes in the society.
He cited the example of Bhutan, how a small country like Bhutan created its unique identity in world by keeping its ecological harmony and developed as a carbon free country.
He mainly focused on to think globally act locally.
Speaking at the webinar, Dilip Routrai, senior bureaucrat, Government of Odisha opined that the youths should come forward with their innovative ideas and should work as a leader in their respective community.
He focused on the inclusive education among youths.
Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Chairperson NACG EVAC India and Secretary PECUC gave the keynote address and spoke about the role and responsibility of youth for creating a better tomorrow. Mohanty emphasised on active participation of young people in political process , strengthen democracy and develop responsive citizenry.
As many as 100 youths from 16 districts of Odisha participated in this webinar. Among other panellists, Sushree Shailani Suman, Chief Editor Research Edit & former State head Ecosavers Youth Network shared ideas on effective use of media for generating public awareness during COVID19 and also shared ideas about how to use various social media platforms in a constructive way to create awareness. Pranab Chaudhury, Researcher and environmentalist emphasised on combating climate change by creating awareness, preserving nature and natural surroundings.
He also suggested that youth should take the lead and play their role effectively by preserving the biodiversity in their immediate surroundings.
He discussed how climate change and pandemic are proportionate to each other.
Madhusudhan Das, National Trustee, National youth project said youth are the leader, they are the change maker and they can bring changes in every sphere of the society.
Anuradha Mohanty, Executive Director of PECUC shared best practices by youths & how youths can create a change in the society citing examples.
Niranjan Sahoo, RDC, North Division addressed the valedictory session and encouraged the youth to work for the conservation and preservation of nature in their respective community.
Only they can bring the changes by reducing the footprint on the nature.
Sahoo also advised participating youths to come forward for Plasma donation and aware people not to be panic and fight against COVID 19 without any fear.
Kalpana Nayak, Vice President Ecosavers Youth Network delivered the vote of thanks. .
