Bhubaneswar(28/07/2020/Article by social worker Anuradha Mohanty E-mail:anuradhabbsr2015@gmail.com): Every child has the right to live in safe environment, to have healthy life and develop their intellectual level which ultimately is related with the future of the country.
A healthy environment is a precondition for physical and mental health of children.
Without it they cannot grow up and become healthy members of society.
Ecology is the science that deals with the relationships between groups of living things and their environments which incorporate the relationship between human being and natural components-water, air, land, etc.
Conserving nature is taking care of our future generation.
Nature provides essential resources for our survival.
Due to the depletion of natural resources and the imbalance in the eco system, the humanity faces the risks like natural disasters, air pollution, ground water depletion, drought, global warming, various diseases and much more.
So, the only solution to overcome these problems is to preserve the natural resources by creating awareness among the people around the world and encourage them to protect the environment for our future generations.
Realizing the importance of nature for survival, the UN has designated July 28 to be celebrated as World Nature Conservation Day in order to raise awareness about protecting nature and conserving our natural resources.
With problems like deforestation and illegal wildlife trade on the rise, nature conservation has gone up on the list of priorities for the countries worldwide.
World Nature Conservation Day is marked internationally to spread awareness about the best practices to protect the natural resources as our earth does not have unlimited amount of things we need like water, trees, soil etc.
A healthy environment is necessary for healthy and a productive society for our future generations.
To help conserve nature, practical actions are required to reduce our ecological footprint, to conserve nature and to connect with nature.
The biggest problem demanding priority of attention of the world community is to protect the nature from over exploitation, wise use of natural resources and maintenance of a healthy and functional eco system.
The top priority of the human population now is to encourage community participation in protecting, conserving and sustainable management of things we use in our everyday life like water, food, electricity.
Rain water harvesting during the monsoon season, composting of vegetable peels for further use can help us for a self sufficient and sustainable life.
By adopting alternative source of energy, plantation, proper use of fuel resources, reducing the use of electricity, less use of paper, vow not to use polythene, re-use of water can be practised at each level.
Organic farming , slow food , creating bird nests , preserve traditional seeds ,preserve forest , less use of vehicles , etc can create handprints on nature.
Organising children & youth, educating them & practising how to create environmental handprints need to be focused. The efforts of Government and active participation of civil society organisations to raise awareness among the common people and industrial and business entities for decent use of natural resources, adoption of mechanisms to check pollution, reuse and recycle in a sustainable way and broadly to prepare and design the future roadmap for conservation of nature.
In the Directive Principle of State Policy, Article 48 says “the state shall endeavour to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country”.
In spite of all the steps by the government, the country faces multiple of problems like waste management, polythene hazard, air and water pollution and deforestation.
In order to present a healthy and clean earth to the present and future generation, we must be careful and judicious in utilisation of natural resources, checking pollution and maintain the eco balance now.
Without the right to a healthy environment it is impossible to realize the rights to food, water, health etc.–now and in the future. .
